Who Is Mama Medics For? At-Home Pediatric Care Explained

Who Is Mama Medics For?

One of the questions we get asked most often is: So…when would I actually call Mama Medics?

And we get it.

Most families already have a pediatrician they love. We’re moms too, and we know how important that relationship is. Mama Medics wasn’t created to replace your child’s pediatrician.

We created it for all the moments in between.

It’s 4:30 on a Friday afternoon and your child suddenly has a fever.

Your toddler wakes up from a nap pulling at her ear, and you’re wondering if it can wait until Monday.

Your baby has a rash that wasn’t there this morning.

Your child has been coughing for three days and now you’re starting to wonder if someone should actually listen to their lungs.

Or maybe you just need someone to tell you, “This is okay to watch at home,” or “No, I think we need to get this checked out.”

Those are the moments we built Mama Medics for.

We wanted another option for parents.

Between the pediatrician’s office and the emergency room, there is a surprisingly large gap.

Sometimes you need a medical evaluation, but you don’t necessarily need an emergency department. Sometimes getting a sick child dressed, loading everyone into the car, and sitting in an urgent care waiting room feels like the absolute last thing you want to do.

And sometimes you simply have a question and want to talk it through with someone who understands kids.

Mama Medics brings pediatric care to families at home and virtually, so we can help figure out what your child needs and where they need to be.

Sometimes that means we come to you.

Sometimes a virtual visit is enough.

Sometimes we tell you to call your pediatrician.

And occasionally, it means telling a family, “This needs a higher level of care.”

That’s part of good pediatric care too.

So, who is Mama Medics useful for?

The parent staring at a rash at 8 p.m. wondering what on earth it is.

The family with a newborn who has a million little questions that somehow never come up until after the pediatrician’s office closes.

The parent whose child gets sick on the one day of the week when absolutely nothing can be rearranged.

The family trying to decide whether something can safely wait until morning.

The parent who knows their child better than anyone and is thinking, Something just doesn’t seem right.

And yes, the parent who simply wants the convenience of having someone come to them.

You don’t need to be a concierge-medicine family. You don’t need to call us for every sniffle. And you certainly don’t need to stop seeing the pediatrician your family already knows and trusts.

We’re another layer of support.

Why did we create it?

Before Mama Medics, we spent years caring for children at Children’s National Hospital. We’ve seen what truly sick children look like, but we’ve also seen how stressful it can be for parents trying to decide how sick is sick enough to seek care.

Then we became moms ourselves.

And suddenly we experienced pediatric healthcare from the other side.

We understood the logistics. The waiting rooms. The after-hours questions. The uncertainty. The feeling of wanting someone knowledgeable to look at your child and help you decide what to do next.

Mama Medics grew out of a very simple idea:

What if pediatric care could meet families where they are?

Not instead of traditional pediatric care.

Alongside it.

At home. Virtually. And with people you can get to know and trust.

That’s Mama Medics.

And this blog is going to be another way for us to be there — answering the questions parents ask us every day, sharing what we’ve learned caring for children, and hopefully making some of those “Is this normal?” parenting moments a little easier to navigate.

Welcome to Mama Medics.

We’re glad you’re here.

Exceptional pediatric care. Delivered at home.
