Meet Sarah Lartey, Pediatric Nurse Practitioner at Mama Medics!
Hi Mama Medics families!
I'm Sarah, and I'm so excited to be part of the Mama Medics team! I'm a pediatric nurse practitioner, a mom of two, and someone who loves helping families navigate the joys, challenges, and occasional chaos of raising kids.
A Little About How I Got Here...
My path to nursing wasn't exactly a straight line!
I graduated from Middlebury College in Vermont with a degree in Geography and African Studies. After college, I moved to Washington, DC, where I began working in healthcare consulting, researching nursing best practices for hospital systems.
While I enjoyed the work, I quickly realized I wanted to be on the other side of healthcare — connecting directly with patients and making a difference in their lives.
That realization led me to Johns Hopkins University, where I earned both my Bachelor of Science in Nursing and Master of Science in Nursing, specializing in pediatrics.
Since then, I've had the privilege of caring for children from their very first days of life through young adulthood.
I particularly love working with newborns and new parents, providing feeding and lactation support, and helping families feel confident as they navigate each new stage of childhood.
Life Outside of Work
My husband and I have called the Brookland neighborhood of Washington, DC, home since 2014, and we're raising our two kids, ages 9 and 7, here. Life with two school-aged kids is busy, loud, and always entertaining!
One of my biggest passions is hiking and climbing mountains. My daughter and I are currently working our way through New Hampshire's 48 peaks over 4,000 feet, one mountain at a time! I love the challenge, the time spent outdoors, and especially getting to share those adventures with her.
As a family, we love traveling, camping, exploring new places, and experiencing different cultures. When we're not off on an adventure, I enjoy cooking, baking, and sharing my creations with family and friends.
What I Love About Being a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner
Being both a pediatric provider and a parent has given me a unique appreciation for how wonderful — and sometimes overwhelming — raising children can be.
I know what it's like to have questions, worry about a sick child, or just need someone to tell you that you're doing a great job.
My favorite part of pediatric medicine is building relationships with families and helping parents feel informed, supported, and confident in caring for their children.
I believe good healthcare starts with listening, and I strive to make every interaction feel comfortable, collaborative, and judgment-free.
That's what makes being part of Mama Medics so exciting to me: the opportunity to provide thoughtful, personalized pediatric care that meets families right where they are, at home.
